Psalm 139: 13-16 Oh yes, You shaped me first inside, then out; You formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank You, High God; You’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration; what a creation! You know me inside and out, You know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, You watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before You, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day. (MSG)
When you were born, your parents didn’t look at you and wonder who you were. They knew you were their long awaited blessing. Their love for you was already in place. They loved you the minute they knew they will have you and each day as they watched you grow so did their love and maybe they cried the day you were born, looked at you in wonder with joy spilling from their hearts, smiling lovingly at each gesture. As you continued to grow, their awe in who God created you to be increased and they marveled taking hundreds, maybe thousands of pictures before you are even five years old.
Now imagine how God feels about you. He fell in love with you before you were even conceived. He knew every detail, every little smile, frown, smirk, sound or movement you’d make and He thoroughly delighted in that. I can almost picture Him watching the unformed substance, smiling that knowing smile and nodding His head in satisfaction. Does He reach out and gently caress your unformed form? And when you are growing in your mothers womb He still watches, loving every second your body forms. Does He kiss the growing babe? Does He whisper goodnight and sing sweet lullabies only you can hear? How sweet and how intimate His love is for us!
If you are anything like me, you stopped printing pictures because you’d have a library of albums. I’m not kidding, by the time my daughter was one, I had so many pictures some of them were the same but I just couldn’t bring myself to delete them. Now, picture God holding a camera in His hands – how many pictures of you does He have in His library? How big is your photo album? I get excited just thinking about it! He loves us so much so obviously our albums are super big with many picture moments He felt were Kodak moments. He also knows our every move before we make it so He’s ready to click it and store it to cherish it forever.
If you’re struggling in knowing who you really are as a child of God, this is for you. I’m speaking to you. You are worth everything to Him (John 3:16) He gave His best for you afterall. He still watches over you and when you fall, He’s there to catch you. When you go through the funk of life, He’s there to see you through it. Psalm 23:4 Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I’m not afraid when you walk at my side. Your trusty shepherd’s crook makes me feel secure. (MSG) Even though you may be going through the toughest of seasons, have full confidence He still knows who you are. There are times you may feel forgotten but that is just a lie from the pits of hell. So rest in full assurance that His rod and staff will always comfort you. Just like a shepherd does with His flock, so does our Father, and He goes above and beyond to direct and redirect you. There is never a moment you are not in His heart, not a moment He will stop loving you. You are His. He knows you. He will not forget you. Let this truth stamp itself in your heart and penetrate deep into your marrow and be grounded in your full identity as a son or daughter of the most High God.
