I Will Go Closer And See
Exodus 3:1-3 One day while Moses was taking care of the sheep and goats of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian, he led the flock across the desert and came to Sinai, the holy mountain. There the angel of the Lord appeared to him as a flame coming from the middle of a bush. Moses saw that the bush was on fire but that it was not burning up. “This is strange,” he thought. “Why isn’t the bush burning up? I will go closer and see.”
I love this story of Moses and the burning bush. I love what God chose to get his attention. God could have gotten Moses attention anywhere. He could have encountered Him in his sleep via a dream or another way but He chose the desert and a dry bush at that.
The desert is a place of desolation. It’s a place where many things die and little lives or thrives. We know there were shrubs or bushes because of the burning bush.
Can you picture it?
When the angel of the Lord appeared to Moses in form a flame, it caught Moses attention. He was surprised the fire was not consuming the bush and he decided to inspect. He decided to go closer and see.
As I was reading this passage, many things that have caught my attention started popping up in my mind and I got excited. Many times, people toss the very thing God is using to get their attention because it takes them out of their comfort zone. Comfort zones can dull our senses to a move of God, to a sign or wonder that He is using to get our attention. I’ve learnt God can use just about anything He sets His mind to and I’m perfectly okay with that because if I need it, He always gives me confirmation.
He answered, “Yes, here I am.”
On seeing his reaction to the burning bush, the Lord called out to him. Moses had to make a conscious decision to get closer and see and the same applies to us. When God is calling us, we have to make a conscious decision to answer. He may chose to use a ‘burning bush’ scenario or you’ll hear His audible voice. After Moses answered, the Lord proceeded to give him instructions.
Read Exodus 3
In 2014, I had attended a two day crusade in Atlanta, Georgia. After the crusade was over, in the wee hours of the morning, I woke up to music playing. At first I thought it was coming from my Ipod as I had it on but after a few minutes, I realized there were two songs, one was coming from the Ipod and the other was so melodious and angelic, and it was completely different from the Hillsong song on my play list. I was hearing heaven. I immediately rolled over kneeling on my pillow and started praying. I ended having an encounter with the Lord that pretty much changed my life for good. He gave me instructions for my calling and while at the time I had no idea of the changes that were coming it set me on the path I’m on. I’ve had other encounters with the Lord and all have tied to scripture and the path He’s desired for my life. Had I ignored any of those signs and wonders, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Had Moses ignored the burning bush, He would have missed His calling. He would not have been the vessel used to deliver Israel.
If God has been getting your attention in unusual ways, don’t ignore it. Don’t let those who don’t believe with you keep you from your God given mandate. Don’t allow fear of the unknown keep you from wanting to take a closer look. The enemy has perverted many things which causes people to be afraid of the supernatural ways of God. Don’t miss out on Gods best for you. If you are unsure if it’s the Lord getting your attention, PRAY. He will send a confirmation.
Love & Blessings!
